There are 4 factors which determine your Automobile Insurance premiums in Ontario. They are:

We at Aaxel Insurance Brokers Ltd, Durham Branch, your local Insurance Broker in Oshawa will help you customize your insurance policy based on your needs.
In Ontario the Automobile insurance market is well regulated and the insurance coverage is one the best in the whole of North America. A Personal Automobile Insurance Policy in Ontario will provide the following coverages and endorsements:
Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability – This section Provides coverage for you or other insureds if someone is killed or injured or their property is damaged due to an automobile accident. It also protects you against lawsuits or legal action resulting from the use or operation of the insured Automobile.
Accident Benefits – Provides benefits to you and (or) the other insureds who are injured or killed as a result of an automobile accident, regardless of who caused the accident. These benefits include payments for income replacement, medical expenses, caregiver expenses, rehabilitation expenses, attendant care expense, funeral expenses and other expenses resulting from an auto accident. There are set limits for these coverages which are important to know. Also, there are standard and optional extras that can be purchased through your automobile insurance policy.
We at Aaxel Insurance Brokers Ltd, Durham Branch will help you select the benefits based on your needs.
Uninsured Automobile – Provides coverage if you and (or) other insureds are killed or injured in an accident that is caused by an uninsured motorist or by an unidentified driver. If your automobile and its contents are damaged due to the accident caused by an uninsured but identified driver this coverage will pay for such losses, however a $300 deductible will apply.
Direct Compensation Property Damage (DCPD) – In Ontario if you are a 100% not at fault, your own insurance company will pay you for the damage to your Automobile or its contents. A deductible will apply if you have chosen it at the time of the policy being set up.
Family Protection Coverage (OPCF 44) – This coverage is always equal to the liability coverage chosen for the insurance policy. If the Liability is $1 million, then the OPCF 44 will also be $1 million. If the at fault driver has no or insufficient insurance, then the not at fault driver can file a claim under this section of the policy to be compensated for the damages.
All the above coverages constitute what is called Third Party Insurance Coverage or Liability Only Coverage or Basic Insurance. The following are optional coverages what you can choose to have, or decline based on your circumstances. We at Aaxel Insurance Brokers Ltd, your local Insurance Broker in Durham Region will help you take this decision based on facts.
Comprehensive Coverage – This is a very broad coverage. It will pay for sudden and accidental loss or damage to your Automobile due to fire; theft or attempted theft); lightning; windstorm; hail; rising water; earthquake; explosion; riots or civil disturbance; falling or forced landing of aircraft or its parts; falling or flying objects; missiles; vandalism or the stranding, sinking, burning, derailment or collision of any kind of transport in, or upon which, the described automobile is being transported. A deductible may be applicable.
Collision Coverage – This coverage pays for damage to your automobile if it is involved in an accident with another automobile or object e.g. tree, dead moose on the road, guardrail etc. A deductible may be applicable.
Loss of use (OPCF 20) – This coverage pays for transportation in the event of a loss. It will pay for a rental car. If you don’t wish to have a rental car, you can be compensated for transportation expenses like taxi, bus fare etc. There is set limit in dollar value or number of days for the pay out under this coverage.
Liability for Damage to a Non-Owned Automobile (OPCF 27) - OPCF 27 provides coverage for damage to a vehicle that you do not own in Canada and United States, e.g. rental automobile. There is set limit for a payout in this coverage.
Removing Depreciation Deduction (OPCF 43) -This coverage means that the insurance company will not deduct the depreciation on the value of your automobile when it settles a claim caused by an insured peril. It is applicable to new vehicles (and sometimes demo vehicles – conditions apply) and you need to prove to the insurance company that the vehicle was purchased new. Usually a broker will ask for Bill of Sale or purchase agreement before setting the policy for such new vehicles. The coverage is applicable for 24 to 48 months (depending on the insurance company) from the date of purchase of the vehicle. There are other conditions associated with this endorsement, so please speak to your Auto Insurance broker about them.
Lien holder Protection (OPCF 23A) and Lessor Protection (OPCF 5) - This coverage protects the interest of the Lien holder (OPCF 23A) if your vehicle is financed and of the lessor (OPCF 5) if your vehicle is leased. One vehicle cannot be leased and financed at the same time so you will either have OPCF 23A or OPCF 5 depending on your circumstances.
